History

We welcome you to Saint Jerome!

St. Jerome Catholic School is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary during the 2015-2016 school year.

Thanks to the dedication and effort of its founding Pastor, Father Michael McGovern and the St. Jerome parishioners, the school opened for instruction in 1965. To properly staff the Kindergarten – 3rd grade classrooms, Fr. McGovern traveled to Ireland to personally invite the Loreto Sisters who graciously accepted the challenge and relocated to Arizona. After several successful initial years of operation, St. Jerome Catholic School expanded to a full-service Kindergarten – 8th grade school which graduated its first class in May of 1971.

Our school and church have grown with the years.

The physical plant of St. Jerome Catholic Parish and School has undergone many enhancements throughout the years. Originally developed from a vegetable farm, the original school building consisted of a single story office structure that was shared in its entirety by the parish and school. In 1967 additional classrooms were added along with offices and a library. In 1996, to address the need for enhanced security, wrought-iron fencing was installed to enclose the campus.

At the turn of the century, improvements have been made!

We would like to thank our faculty and staff. Without all their help, none of this would be possible.

These improvements included new suspended ceilings, air conditioning and insulation, upgraded electrical service and as phase I of the plan for an additional structure/gymnasium new outdoor basketball courts, parking lots and improved lighting improved school and parish comfort and safety.

Through the continued diligence and tireless efforts of school administration and staff, parish staff, school advisory board and parent organization, further improvements have been made over the last several years including the addition of a 3 and 4 year old full-time pre-school, a Campus Minister, shade covers throughout the playground for sun safety, additional instructional aides, new roof, playground equipment, fire alarm, and sprinkler system through a grant from the Virginia Piper Foundation, smart board installations, technology lab renovation and restroom remodels. Administratively, a Counselor, Dean of Students and Vice-Principal for Academic Affairs have been added to increase efficiency of operation.
