Amor Dei originated and is currently based in Cebu Philippines. It is one Catholic Charismatic Prayer Community out of hundreds or even thousands of active prayer groups in the country which is 90% Catholic.
It is a wonderful blessing and honor to be allowed to join the Parish Community of St Jerome. We are all excited and looking forward to be active participants in the growth of the parish.
My friend and I agreed to start praying the rosary and Divine Mercy chaplet with praise and worship at home once a week beginning summer in 1997 and eventually more people joined us. We held our first Catholic Life in the Spirit Seminar conducted by Fr Leoncio Santiago (Pastor of St Catherine of Sienna in Chicago IL) at the CASA in Scottsdale AZ.
Then we were invited to a CLSS in Las Vegas given by the Amor Dei San Francisco Chapter at Mt Petosi ...The following year we invited the speakers (1 priest Fr Bonaventure Valles, OFMI)..our spiritual director and 2 Catholic lay evangelists: Bro Alejandro Aguspina (preacher for 26 yrs) and Bro Ramon Jongco (preacher for about 25 yrs) accompanied by their music ministry Bro Arnold Llanos and Sis Erlinda Ong. In Filipino Charismatic communities we address each other as bro and sis as sign of respect. We held our 2nd CLSS in Arizona.
For the sake of continuity we asked to be part of Amor Dei as Amor Dei Phoenix Chapter. Every year, for the past 8 consecutive years we have been holding our CLSS once a year ...gradually increasing in membership, we continued to hold our prayer meetings at home. At this time we have about 20 active members.
After presenting the individual biodata and certification letters (recommendations) from the Cardinal and Bishop and Superior of each preacher, we received the approval letters from the Diocese of Phoenix recommending looking for a Catholic Church where we could belong. Praise the Lord we were finally adopted by Fr Andres and St Jerome.
Our prayer meetings would involve praise and worship and formation sessions where we will study the Scripture, relate our personal experiences to the assigned readings, conduct faith-sharing and have fellowship. We will be using as guides the books developed by Fr Leonardo Polinar who is the pioneer of the Catholic Charismatic Movement in the Philippines.
We hope to be an asset to our Catholic community, eventually getting involved in the ministries and becoming part of the family.
Praise the Lord!
